Privacy policy

Inkline, by AppN Tech · Effective 1 January 2026

The short version. Inkline has no advertising, no analytics and no accounts. You can play the whole game without it ever contacting a server. If you choose to join the friends board, it stores an anonymous id, an optional name you type, and the figures of your runs, and nothing else.

1. Who this is

Inkline is a game published by AppN Tech ("we"). This policy covers the Inkline mobile app and this website. Questions, and requests to delete your data, go to support@playinkline.com.

2. What the app does not do

These are absolute, not defaults you can change:

  • There is no advertising of any kind, and no advertising SDK is present in the app.
  • There is no analytics or crash-reporting SDK. Nothing reports your taps, your session length, or your behaviour to us or to anyone else.
  • There is no advertising identifier, no device fingerprinting, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking.
  • We never collect your email address, phone number, contacts, calendar, photos, microphone, camera, precise or coarse location, or the list of other apps on your device.
  • We do not sell or share personal information, and there is nothing collected that could be sold.

The app requests no runtime permissions. It needs network access only for the optional features in section 4.

3. What stays on your device

By default, everything. Your best score, how many runs you have played, your total time, which brushes you have unlocked, your audio and display settings, and your local leaderboard are all written to your own device's app storage. None of it is sent anywhere unless you join the friends board (section 4), and all of it is removed when you uninstall the app.

4. What is sent, only if you choose to join the friends board

Comparing scores with friends is optional and is not the default state of the game. Playing, however much, sends nothing. You join only by pressing get my code or by entering a friend's code on the friends page. At that moment the app creates an anonymous identity for you: a random identifier, with no email, no password and nothing that identifies you as a person. If you never join, no record of you is ever created.

When you join, your best run so far is posted once, so your friends see what you have already done. After that, each run you finish is posted as it ends.

The record we hold about you

  • A random anonymous identifier, and the date it was created.
  • A display name, only if you type one. It is optional, may be left empty, is limited to sixteen characters, and is chosen by you. Please do not put your real name or any other personal detail in it.
  • An invite code, created when you join, and the list of players you are connected to, including requests sent or received.

The record we hold about each posted run

  • The score, how long the run lasted, and how long you were actually playing.
  • The identifier of the field you played and a checksum of it, so a score can be checked against the layout it was made on.
  • The difficulty setting the run used, which brush you had equipped, and the colour the ink had reached.
  • The date and time it was posted.

That is the complete list. There is no device model, no operating system version, no IP address stored against your record, and no identifier that follows you to any other app or website.

5. Where it is stored, and who else sees it

Leaderboard data is stored in a database hosted by Supabase, acting as our processor. Like any internet service, their servers process the network requests your device makes, which necessarily involves your IP address in transit and in short-lived operational logs held by them. We do not store your IP address, and we cannot use those logs to link a network request to a leaderboard record.

Your display name is visible only to players linked to you by a friend request, sent or received, or by a friendship. A request shows your name so that it can be answered; your scores are shown only once a request has been accepted. We do not disclose any of this data to anyone else, and there are no third-party trackers, tag managers or advertising partners involved at any point.

6. This website

This site serves static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and makes no requests to any third-party domain. The fonts, images and scripts are all served from this site, specifically so that visiting it does not hand your address to anyone else. Our host keeps standard server logs for security and operational purposes.

If you choose a light or dark theme, that choice is remembered in your own browser's local storage. It never leaves your browser and is not an identifier.

7. Why we are allowed to hold it

Where UK or EU data protection law applies, our lawful basis is your consent, given by choosing to join the friends board, and our legitimate interest in operating a leaderboard that is not trivially falsified. You can withdraw consent at any time by asking us to delete your record, as in section 9.

8. How long it is kept

Leaderboard records are kept while the leaderboard exists, because a high-score table that forgets is not a high-score table. If the online service is ever retired, the data is deleted with it. You can have your record removed at any point before that.

9. Your rights, and how to delete your data

You may ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email support@playinkline.com with the invite code shown in the app, which is how we find your record. We have no other way to identify you, and we will not ask you for one.

Deleting your player record removes every score and every friendship attached to it at the same time; this is enforced by the database rather than by a routine that might miss something. Deleting the app from your device removes everything described in section 3.

10. Children

Inkline is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from them. Since the only field a player can type is an optional display name, there is very little to collect. If you believe a child has entered personal information as their display name, contact us and we will remove it.

11. Changes

If this policy changes, the effective date at the top changes with it, and any change that widens what we collect will be announced in the app before it takes effect. We do not intend to widen it.
