Descriptions

One line

An endless one-line climber where every row of the page offers exactly one mark worth reaching.

Short, about 50 words

Inkline is an endless arcade game for phones, drawn as a single unbroken brush stroke. Each row of the page carries one plain mark and a scatter of hazards; only the next row is ever in play. Tap the mark and the brush dashes to it. There is no timer. The page falling away is the timer.

Long, about 120 words

Inkline is an endless one-touch climber built around a single question: can you still read the page when it is moving this fast? Every row carries exactly one valid mark and a scatter of hazard crosses, and only the row immediately above the brush is ever in play, so the choice is never which mark, but mark against hazard. It is a reading test rather than a routing one.

There is no countdown. Standing still carries the brush toward the bottom of a falling page, which means hesitation has a visible, legible cost in exactly the place you are already looking. As the score climbs, the ink walks the eight traditional nihonga pigments and the page soaks darker beneath it, so how far a run travelled is written in its colour.

Points of interest

  • No ads, no tracking, no account. No advertising SDK, no analytics SDK, no sign-up, and no advertising identifier. The game is fully playable offline.
  • The colour is the score readout. Ink walks the nihonga palette as you climb rather than sitting on a fixed theme, and a death floods the page with whatever pigment the run had reached.
  • Cut from four games to one on measured play. Inkline began as a collection of four prototypes built to find out which was worth finishing. Across 378 recorded plays this one took 74% of all play time; the other three were retired on the numbers rather than on preference.
  • Brushes differ in kind, not degree. Unlocks change stroke length, taper and ring shape rather than applying a colour tint. It is a deliberate constraint that cost more iterations than any other part of the game.
